Depression

Depression is a whole-body illness.   It involves the body, mood and thoughts, and affects the way a person eats and sleeps, feels about himself or herself, and thinks about things.  Depression is not about feeling unhappy or being in a blue mood.  It is not a sign of personal weakness.  People with a depressive illness cannot merely “pull themselves together” and get better.

Without treatment, symptoms can last for weeks, months, or even years.  However, appropriate treatment, whether it be medication and/or counseling, can help most people who suffer from depression.  Sta-Home’s clinical team focuses on overall assessment of chronic illnesses and how depression can delay appropriate interventions for these illnesses.  Visit our online health library to get more information on depression, its treatment and symptom management.
