Services

PHYSICIAN
Care and treatment is provided under the direction of the patient’s attending physician.  The hospice Medical Director is available for consultation regarding palliative care and pain and symptom management.

NURSING
Skilled nursing care is provided 24-hours a day on an intermittent basis.  Services may include:  medication management, education, physician assessment and disease progression, treatments and supervision of certified nurses’ aides.

MEDICAL SOCIAL SERVICES
A medical hospice social worker is a licensed social worker (LSW) who has had specialized training in end-of-life care.  They may help the family deal with symptoms, psychological stress, work with community agencies to meet patient and family needs, or just provide support.  The social workers are also available through the stages of bereavement.

CHAPLAIN SERVICES
The hospice team works closely with the clergy of the individual’s choice.  The hospice clergy is available to fill in should the patient’s own clergyman not be available when counseling is required.

HOSPICE AIDES AND HOMEMAKER SERVICES
The hospice aides provide basic non-clinical bedside care for the patient.  They spend most of their time with the hospice patient and the family providing basic care and helping with routines of daily living.

PATIENT & CAREGIVER’S EDUCATION
The hospice team is trained to educate patients and caregivers on what to expect at each stage of the dying process and help them prepare to let go.

VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers provide friendly and supportive patient/family contact through visits, bereavement counseling, office and clerical duties and community education functions after completing the volunteer training program.

BEREAVEMENT SERVICES
The bereavement program is designed to help hospice families through their feelings of loss.  The program includes online access to the comprehensive Grief Words Library, continued contact as needed with Sta-Home's professional hospice staff, a bereavement guide to help answer questions about the grief process, monthly letters from Sta-Home during the first year of loss that address the different stages of grief, and an annual Memorial Service to honor the loved ones who have passed away during the year.
